Computer Slowness (last update 24 April 2025)
Some computers and desktops have being running slowly for the last few weeks following some system work a couple of weeks before Easter.
Yesterday we added a fast intermediate disk between the homedirectory server and the network. This should be increasing speeds by up to a hundred times.
We ask that if you were experiencing slowness and now things have improved for you that you let the maths helpdesk know.
If you have concerns please address them to the Interim IT Manager - Stephen Eglen.
There is no need to report a slow computer to the maths helpdesk. if you have a laptop we advise using that to do tasks like reading email thus bypassing the server causing the issues.
Helpdesk Drop in Hours
For Easter Term 2025 the Maths Helpdesk drop in hours are 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm. The office number is C1.10.
